Title: Spring Sky
Size: 10 x 10 inches
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Stretched canvas
Sold
I finished this one more quickly than I thought. I spent about a couple of hours using my airbrush for the background. It's always messy doing that, but fun because this is usually the only part that is close to abstract art for me.
The model is one of the raven pair I took pictures of at the nearby beach. I want to paint the pair on a larger canvas sometime in the near future. This painting is more like a study for that larger one.

This is a great raven painting Akiko. I especially like how you handled the eye and included some blue and green in the eye reflections to go with the beautiful background.
Nice to see you back Akiko - this looks wonderful. I recently bought an airbrush and have only played with it briefly, but can imagine how challenging it is to work in such fine detail with it like this. Fantastic!!!
Oh WOW Akiko! This is incredible!
Thank you for your kind words on Charlie. It was very unexpected and I miss her terribly.
Wow...that's pretty much all I can say...I am in absolute awe. Just found your blog through another art blog, and you're absolutely amazing!
Wonderful piece Akiko! The thing I love about your work - I'm sure if I looked at the photo, it would have so much less reflection in the eye, not nearly as much detail in the feathers, we wouldn't notice the stray hairs at the beak. You take photos and make them look better - like I suddenly have super sonic vision or something...just wonderful!
Akiko, another great raven painting! I love the details in the feathers!
Akiko, your realism is leaving me at a loss for words. Stunning and amazing don't cover it. My favorite part of this painting is the raven's beak... the way you painted it's texture, my mind is telling me exactly how it would feel to touch it.
What beautiful tribute to raven!
Much love,
Kathleen
A lovely painting Akiko, the airbrush really works doesnt it, makes the raven really stand out
Outstanding, Akiko!
Great to see you back with such wonderful paintings.
I love this work. You've handled the light and the emotion so well. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us.
This is a wonderful painting, Akiko...
Beautiful. Once again, it is the magnificent translucent eye that captivates me above all else.
So challenging to capture the iridescence a crow's black feathers have. You did it perfectly (as always). The mountains in "over the mountains" look very Nihonteki...
Stunning work Akiko. The feather colours are perfect, and I love your abstract background.
Akiko!
You consider this to be just a study?!?!?
I can't imagine what you consider an actual painting to look like!
This is amazingly detailed! So many colors in the dark feathers.
At first glance this painting appears to be done in pastels or even colored pencil. I guess it's all the tiny, intricate brushstrokes fooling my eye.
Excellent as always!!

Akiko, great job on those feathers. You really caught the iridescence.
