Saddest Day of My Life

My precious Hunter passed away late night on May 12. It was day 31 since his Convenia shot. He had a bad reaction to this antibiotic and suffered terribly for one full month. It was not even necessary for him to get the shot because amoxicillin was working fine with his chronic cough. His doctor recommended Convenia without telling us anything about its possible side effects and danger.

According to Pfizer, a Convenia shot is effective for 14 days, but remains in the system for 65 days. Curt and I looked after him day and night, feeding and medicating him 5 times a day while researching the Internet which revealed that 5 to 6% of the cats, especially old cats, have a bad reaction to Convenia some of which are fatal. We needed to keep him going for 65 days. In spite of numerous visits to his vets, stay at an emergency hospital, multiple ultrasound, X-rays, blood tests, and placement of feeding tube, he could not make it. I'M SO SORRY HUNTER!

Rest in peace now. I will always love you forever.

Akiko, I am sending you a big hug, and I'm so sorry about the loss of your dear cat Hunter! I think he knows it was not your fault, and how you and Curt tried so hard to save him means a lot no matter what.

So very sorry to read your post Akiko.
We have to put trust in the vets but I have often wondered in the past whether they always put the best interests of their patients first or whether commercial issues dictate their actions .....

RIP Hunter

Akiko, I am so sorry to hear about dear Hunter. I know from your many posts about him and your numerous portraits posted here and in the old eBay groups that he was so special to you. I know you have a deep hole in your heart. My own heart goes out to you and Curt and I will treasure Hunter's portrait that I have.

Sleep lightly sweet Hunter~

So sorry for the traumatic experience and loss of your beloved Hunter. It is terrible enough to lose an animal friend, but to know it was untimely and due to a medicine suppose to help him, is doubly devastating. My heart goes out to you Akiko.

Laissez couler vos larmes...
Tout mon coeur est avec vous.
Gros bisous

I know I found this post over a year later but I'm sorry to read this news, Akiko.

I hope you're doing really well and continuing to paint and make amazing works of art that we've all come to know and love.
