I experimented with a scratchboard. Scratches help depict realistic animal hairs, but I could not get the vibrant colors I wanted with acrylic paints because the unscratched part is black. However, the result is interesting. I just need more planning and practice.

I love it! The eye is mesmerizing.
I wasn't clear earlier when I wrote "can" I didn't mean spraycan but I know it read that way. I meant the brush type in a jar. I've never tried it myself but I've heard of people doing it. However, I'm absolutely sure that piece would look stunningly beautiful to all of us, as it is. I think your just so use to being focused on the tiny details. Cracks add character!
I vote don't change it...unless you must.
I second the vote! This medium gives your work a different touch which is unique to scratch board art. I call it a success!
Alice, I'm glad that you like my Cheetah.
Yes, cracks definitely add character; the painting now looks like it was pained 100 years ago. lol I decided to just leave it as is. Once it's framed and hang on the wall, the cracks won't be visible anyway.
Erika, I'm glad you also like my Cheetah! It took me a long time to do this small piece, but I had fun. I want to try more.
Isn't it fun like sculpting? :) I enjoyed it so much when I did it; had to keep reminding myself paint paint paint (since I had tons of supplies for painting lol)
Yes, it is fun! Next time, I will try to scratch more so my paints will show up better.
Even your pieces you say need practice are masterful. I gave up on scratchboard. I would work it so hard I would ruin it completely! You have such a light touch ! Golders
Wendy thank you for your compliments! I can't imagine you ruin any artwork; you are so talented!!! Thanks for dropping by. :)
