I have been having fun with colored pencils. The problem is that I end up losing the sharpness of image due to the layering process. For both drawings, I had to use another medium (gouache and acrylic) at the end to touch up the darkest and lightest parts. The next time, I need better planning to keep the lightest areas clean from unwanted colors.
Both of these ACEOs are on eBay. To see, click the image.

Oh, Akiko! You've outdone yourself! I can't believe these are aceos!!! So much detail...they are perfect!!! Especially the eyes. So beautiful!!!
Superb work Akiko, with plenty of detail for such a small format.....love them both.
Kathleen thank you so much! I try not to get hooked on ACEOs, but just love this form of art. :)
Vic thanks for your visit and kind words!! :)
Akiko, I can't believe they are both colored pencils! They are wonderful!
They are beautiful! Really, it's amazing the pieces you create! I couldn't believe they are colored pencil. What i would give to draw like that!
Love you stuff!!!
Oh also why haven't you participated in the new week drawing for Different Strokes from Different Folkes. I would love to see what you come up with.
Gail thanks! It might be interesting to experiment with a darker paper. ;)
Stewart thank you so much for your kind remarks. I'm still struggling with the DSFDF challenge...
I'm not worthy!!! but this is appropriate timing Akiko-san. I just posted in my blog for every one to look at yours. Then they can see mine are like manga. HUGS!!
Sheila thanks for your visit and the link!!!
Akiko I could totally run my fingers through their fur! You are one artist who makes me love ACEO format you're totally brilliant!
Akiko. as I remarked on Sheila's blog, the first time I encountered your work some weeks back, my jaw dropped to the floor in awe. It's still there. Your talent is indeed, awesome. My basic genre is wildlife of Costa Rica, so I can really identify with detail and realism of your critters. When I grow up, I want to paint just like you :-) Oh, and I would fall over backwards if you would participate with a few of us on Windows to the Words.
Erika thanks for your visit. I still think your ACEO of Buddha with crow is the best!
James, your are so humble. Your wildlife art is just amazing!! One of my favorite creatures is frog; your frog paintings are big inspiration to me. Will check out Windows to the Words. Thanks for the invite! :)
Akiko, These pieces are so gorgeous and lifelike. I don't know how you do it, but you do, and consistently.
WONDERFUL work, Akiko!
