Size: 11 x 14 inches
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Stretched canvas
It took me about two weeks to finish this piece, because I was interrupted by a couple of small jobs (which actually pay bills).
While painting this, I was wondering what this dog was thinking. What makes him look so sad? Do they always look like this? They sure are more expressive than cats.

An absolutely stunning painting, Akiko! He has such a wonderful expression.
Sensational!! When I first saw it come up on the screen I thought it was a photo! Really gorgeous with far more depth than a photo could ever achieve!!
Akiko, you painting just blows me away! As stated above, I have to loke twice to make sure it's not a photo! I just can't say anough wonderful things about your work.
I'm jumping up and down, Akiko!!! Ok, not right this second, because I am typing, but I was! WOW!!! This is amazing! I knew you were a master at painting cats, but this just blows me away! I love everything about it! His ears, his feet, his muzzle and his wrinkles, the fur on his face... The floor is great too, it really sets him off. And you truly are my hero at painting eyes! I just want to hug you for bringing this beautiful creation into the world! :-)
Wow, I absolutely love your cats but........... this precious one is fantastic. You captured him so well.

Mercy me, Akiko, you are awesome. This is absolutely fantastic. It is photo quality...and the wood is terrific!!!
This is breathtaking Akiko. He is so sweet. I also noticed the wood and reflection on the floor. It's so interesting to look at all the fine detail.
Mona, thank you! The pink part on the ref photo was a little pale, so I gave him more red. I think he looks cuter this way. :)
Edward thank you so much!
Gail, when I saw the ref photo, I fell in love and had to paint him.

Michelle, thank you for checking out the details. There is so much more I can do, but at least it looks done. lol After posting this picture, I noticed that his left arm needs more shadow. I might work on that.
Akiko, this is just plain old fabulous. You are an amazing talent, and I can't believe how you consistently raise the bar with these paintings.
Hi Akiko,
You can even make a French Bulldog look great!!!! I mean GREAT!!!! Such a joy to visit your blog and take in the beauty you create. As always, I want to be like you when I grow up. :-)

Perhaps he's thinking, "I know I'm pretty cute, but how come CATS are so much more elegant than we are?"
Hehe thats a lovely expression. You always impress me with your skill in painting cats, and you have done just the same with this bulldog. They do have such character don't they, maybe its all those wrinkles!
Hi Erika! This is not a commission. I'm thinking about entering this into competitions.
Jala, thank you! Maybe you're right. He is jealous of cats. lol
Sam, thanks for your compliment! I love his expression, too.
Fantastic portrait, love this one
Amazing!
Akiko!
Your miniature art is always flawless. Your larger works are even more amazing....if that's possible!
"French Bulldog" is absolute PERFECTION!
I cannot say anything bad about this one.
Great composition! Excellent likeness and facial expression! Super-detailed!
The pinks in the ears, the grays, blacks, and whites in the fur, and the warm browns on the wood floor all work together.
Amazingly good job on the highlights in the nails, the eyes, the bottom lip, and the reflection of the paws on the floor.
I've said it before and I'll say it again....
Akiko makes the impossible possible!
