Frog Prince ACEO

Size: 2.5 x 3.5 inches
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Multimedia Artboard
Reference photo of frog provided by Gabe Lees.

Inspired by the beautiful paintings of frog prince by my fellow artist Melody Lea Lamb, I did this painting last week. The photo of this beautiful frog was provided by nature photographer Gabe Lees. Thanks Gabe!

I had problems painting the stone, as usual and as you can see. I consulted with my fellow artist Alice Thompson who has recently produced amazing painting of a fish bone and stones. I realize that I need lots of practices on stones and rocks among many other things.

Akiko - I think this turned out GREAT! And when I first saw it, I immediately thought of Melody Lee!

Positively Charming Akiko. You are a stone master for sure! I knew you didn't need any help from me because you had it covered all along. Two questions, first-was the crown added by you and second- is this before or after the frog was kissed?

Deb, thanks! Yes, Mel has several frog prince ACEOs that are so adorable. When I saw the ref photo of this frog, I just had to try a frog prince myself.

Alice, thank you for your compliment. My stone is far from your stones in terms of skills. Yes, I added this little crown; I think he looks rather distinguished with it. Now he needs a princess! lol

He is so sweet, Akiko! I adore Melody's Frog Prince series, and I love seeing your spin on it. :-)
I haven't painted a lot of stone, but the times I have, I remember thinking it was fun.

Kathleen, thank you! Painting stones usually fun for me at the beginning, but then I start to get frustrated when it doesn't turn right. :(

Akiko, this is wonderful! I thought of Melody Lee when I first saw it. The stone looks great to me! You are always working to try out new things. I'm usually dragged into the new kicking and screaming :-)

Akiko, fabulous! I like the jewels in the crown. I find rocks hard to paint also, but I think you did a great job, and it looks like you were at your ease with it. Did you use any spattering, like with a toothbrush, or brushwork only?

Edward Burton said...

I LOVE this one, Akiko - wonderful job!

artbyakiko said...

Gail, this stone is not exactly what I intended, but I'm glad that you like the stone. Thanks!

Mona, thanks! These jewels are so small and I couldn't do much on them, but glad that they look like jewels to you. :)
This rock is also very small, so I just used my brush to create many dots instead of masking and spattering.

Edward, thank you so much!!

Oh Akiko, your Frog Prince is just adorable! I am so honored that I inspired you to create your version of these amphibian royalty! I also like how your frog's crown is velvety, nice touch.

He is the most authentic looking frog prince Akiko! If I ever see him in person I'd definitely kiss him as he is every bit charming!

Akiko!

Another amazing painting!

Great lighting, especially the glossiness on the frog's skin.

The rock looks good to me. It's not textured and rough but smooth looking. What look were you going for?

I know I keep saying this, but I don't know how you can work this small and still produce such a tightly rendered painting such as this!

Just great!

-Dean

Lara thanks! The model for this prince is actually an Australian tree frog.

Breath-taking, awesome...just a couple of superlatives for your little froggie. And the rock. And the crown. You need practice on rocks like I need another inch on my waistline. You are aces!!!
