Another Person Painting

The Magdalen
After Jean-Jacques Henner
Size: 9 x 12 inches
Medium: Oil
Support: Stretched canvas

This is my submission for "Favorite Master Artists" in the Following the Masters blog.

The original painting is in the art museum at Standford University. I took several pictures of it, so I can use it as my reference. The original is much larger, maybe about 30" x 40". It would be a fun project to do a large one like the original.

Happy New Year, everyone!!

Much as I don't usually care for nude paintings, Akiko, I think this piece is just hauntingly stunning. Such gorgeous work; you should be so proud of yourself. This is absolutely, jaw-droppingly beautiful.

I'm sure glad Ed wasn't your last "person" painting of the year, or we wouldn't be enjoying this one. Wonderful job. Your are very talented.

Subarashii! You are so awesome with whatever you choose to paint. I see Karin paired two of our best painters to paint each other this year for the portrait challenge. Great job on Edward.

Great job, Akiko!

The main reason for copying a Master's work is to learn something about their painting process, correct?

If so, was there anything you learned from copying this artist's painting?

Akiko - you even paint excellent when your subjects are furless, and have no beautiful shiny eyes! You are truly an amazing talent.

This is unusual for you to do and it's in oil. Talk about painting bigger, I just purchased a 30x40" today, I wanted to get a 4x5' canvas but I'll have to borrow the big truck for that one. Lets get some Bigger work done this year mixed in with the smaller ones!
