Stars of Heaven

Size: 8 x 10 inches
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Ampersand Gessobord

This is our Frankie. He passed on October 12, 2008. He was only 10 years old. It’s always very sad to lose pets, especially young ones. This is my tribute to Frankie. He is now in heaven surrounded by beautiful stars.

I think I saw Frankie trying to swat a star that landed on his nose. Well he thought it landed on his nose but I think it was really Frankie shining like a bright star himself! Beautifully done and done with love!

Akiko I can see the stars in Frankie's eyes. Did you use a paticular star pattern or constellation for the background? His face and ears are so alert! He's so handsome. Did you cry painting this? It's very lovely.

Thank you Erika! Now he is in a better place where his mom is. His mom passed away when he was only a kitten. One of our cats adopted him.

Alice, I used silver glitters as stars, which do not show in the image, then added some large ones with acrylic paint; no particular constellation in mind. To protect the glitters, I coated the entire painting with water-base clear varnish, which I regret because I see ugly cracks on the varnish in several areas. Do you know how to remove the varnish without damaging the acrylic painting underneath? I did cry painting him...

Akiko, I am so sorry about Frankie, but such a lovely portrait in honor of him! I've never been able to paint mine after they have passed as I cry too much. gail

Akiko, your work is magnificent! I am sorry for the loss of your Frankie, but your portrait is a lovely tribute to him. My cat Boomer is 15 years old, I hope she will be with me for a long time to come. It is so hard to lose our dear pet friends.

Kathleen, thank you for your wonderful complements! I just visited your blog. Your artwork is stunning!! At first I thought they were watercolors, but I was wrong. Thanks for sharing your WIPs; I always love to see how other artists create their artwork.

This painting is phenominal. I thought it was a photograph. You can see the love in it.
