Study of a Mexican Gray Wolf

Medium: Acrylic
Size: 5 x 7 inches
Support: Ampersand Gessobord

I painted this portrait of Mexican Gray Wolf as a study before starting a larger one. The Mexican Gray Wolves were eradicated by humans. By the 1950s, the Mexican Gray Wolf had been eliminated from the wild. Today, an estimated 300 Mexican Wolves survive in facilities at the US and Mexico.

This was such a beautiful and mystical looking creature. It's devastating what mankind fails to protect and preserve. We are so fortunate to have you as an artist
Akiko to capture an element of their beauty and history. I would not even know about such things if your art hadn't brought it to my attention. Sad, how so many of us (myself included) are disconnected and unaware of these tragedies. You have such a passion for animals. You speak for them with your art.

Alice thank you for such wonderful comments on my wolf painting and the fact about these critically endangered wolves. When the administration changes at the White House in January, I hope not only people but also animals will get the help that has been deprived of for the past 8 years and maybe we can actually start repairing our precious planet.

I completely second what our very wise Alice Thompson said! I am sure your depiction of this wolf is nothing short of complete precision. Thank you for being a passionate advocate for animals and educating me but at the same time enticing us to learn because you give us such beautiful eye candies!

Erika, you are one of the people who helped this positive change happen for the animals. I thank you for that!

WOW! I just discovered your blog today....it's AMAZING! I too am an animal lover and I've always felt a strong connection to wolves......I was saddened to read of the Mexican wolves being eradicated. Man is so blinded by greed and power. :(

Serena, thank you so much for visiting my blog! It's sad that wolf eradication still goes on in Alaska under the leadership of Sarah Palin. :(

Akiko, I too am extremely awed by your wonderful work and the subject matter. How cool that you use your art this way! SO inspiring. Makes me want to think hard about how I could do some good, too. Thank you for your example.

Camille thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving your wonderful comments! The situation is sad for many wildlife animals, but I'm hopeful because of many kind people like you and the new administration that will listen to "people" not just big corporations.
